Before your first drive

Last updated Wed, September 16th, 2026

The very first time you start turn-by-turn driving, the app asks a few one-time questions to get set up. After that you will not see them again. Here is what comes up, in order, so nothing catches you out on the road.

Drive mode is part of the Basic plan or higher; without a subscription you'll see a card that reads "Turn-by-turn RV-safe navigation requires a Basic subscription or higher" with a See plans button. During the public beta, Pro is included for everyone, so drive mode is available.

The prompts, in order

  1. Location access. Drive mode needs your location to guide you. If you decline, it says "Drive mode needs your location for turn-by-turn navigation. Allow location access to continue." If location is switched off for good, the message points you to your phone's Settings and the drive screen grows an Open Settings button.
  2. On Android only, a notification prompt. On Android 13 and newer this never blocks your drive. If you decline, the background guidance notice simply does not appear; spoken guidance still works.
  3. Google's navigation terms. Accepting these is required. If you decline, you'll see "Navigation requires accepting the Google terms of service" and drive mode will not start.

Two things to know about closing the app

  • On Android, swiping the app out of your Recents stops guidance. That is deliberate.
  • On iPhone, closing the app ends the drive anyway.

What you'll see

Your phone screen stays awake for the whole drive, so you are not tapping to wake it at every turn.
