Using TheRVMAP with Android Auto

Last updated Wed, September 16th, 2026

Android Auto is the phone app projecting onto your car's screen. Here is what is on it and what each control does.

Drive mode is part of the Basic plan or higher; without a subscription you'll see a card that reads "Turn-by-turn RV-safe navigation requires a Basic subscription or higher" with a See plans button. During the public beta, Pro is included for everyone, so drive mode is available.

While you are driving

The controls are Re-center, End and a microphone. On the map are buttons for panning, restrooms and gas. When you arrive at a stop along the way, a Start: button appears for the next one.

  • Restrooms and gas open a Nearby list and confirm with a toast.
  • Voice works the same way as on the phone, with a listening screen, a "Did you mean" list for addresses, and then a choice of Add as next stop, Start new drive or Cancel.

No Turns list on Android Auto

Unlike CarPlay, Android Auto has no Turns list. This is a limitation of Android Auto's navigation screen, which shows only the current and next turn. It is a platform difference, not a missing feature.

When nothing is driving

The screen says either "Choose Drive to start one of your trips" or "No trip ready to drive — plan one in theRVmap on your phone", with a Drive or Refresh button to match. Android Auto cannot start a drive to a brand-new destination you have not planned on the phone.
