Using TheRVMAP with CarPlay

CarPlay is the phone app projecting onto your car's screen. Here is what is on it and what each control does.

Drive mode is part of the Basic plan or higher; without a subscription you'll see a card that reads "Turn-by-turn RV-safe navigation requires a Basic subscription or higher" with a See plans button. During the public beta, Pro is included for everyone, so drive mode is available.

While you are driving

The bar carries Re-center, End and Turns. On the map are buttons for panning, restrooms, gas and the microphone. When you arrive at a stop along the way, a Start: button appears naming the next one.

• Turns opens the list of upcoming turns.
• The restroom and gas buttons open a Nearby list and confirm when a stop is added.
• The microphone uses Apple's own listening screen and understands exactly the same phrases as the phone. A Did You Mean? list appears for addresses, then the choice to add a stop or start a new drive.

The steering-wheel voice button

The voice button on your steering wheel is Siri's, not ours, so it will not take TheRVMAP commands. Use the microphone on the car screen instead.

When nothing is driving

Only the pan button remains, plus a Drive button that offers a short Start Drive list: resume a drive in progress, or the next leg of the trip you are on. If there is nothing to offer, a message explains why, either that setup needs finishing on the phone, or that a trip and route need choosing first. CarPlay cannot start a drive to a brand-new destination you have not planned on the phone.

It works from a cold start in the car, even with the phone app closed.
